The Dawson Academy Mini-Residency provides a customized dental CE path for dentists and technicians who want to elevate their careers with advanced knowledge and skills necessary to provide predictable dental care, no matter how complex the case may be.
In just over a year, you’ll experience hands-on clinical learning, one-on-one instruction, and group discussion that prepare you to treat cases that many dentists can’t.

Core 1: Occlusion & Smile Design
The first course of our Core Curriculum, Core 1: Occlusion & Smile Design. In two days, Explore occlusal stability, patient communication, case acceptance, and practice management, all backed by timeless principles for predictable restorative care. See the connection of function and aesthetics, analog and digital workflows, and ignite your practice’s efficiency and fulfillment in ways that reshape your approach to dentistry. This course can be taken in person, or online.
Core 2: Examination & Records
One of the most important topics that a dentist can master, the records process. In Core 2, learn what it takes to gather a thorough comprehensive examination and the steps of necessary records accurately. As Dr. Dawson says “every great treatment plan comes from a well organized Records appointment”. Core
Core 3: Treatment Planning
In Core 3, discover a programmed approach to predictably diagnose and treatment plan both simple to extremely difficult cases. Utilizing the standardized records discussed in your previous courses, each dentist will discover how to visualize optimum dentistry from an esthetic, functional, biological and structural perspective. You’ll learn to apply the four treatment options: reshaping, repositioning, restoring and surgical correction, which are a critical component of step-by-step dental treatment planning checklists.
Core 4: Equilibration & Orthotics
Master the aspects needed to implement a process of occlusal therapy within your dental practice at Core 4. Equilibration is a cornerstone for treatment of occlusal disease, and dentists should know how to perform all aspects of it correctly. Discover the importance of the trial equilibration and adjust several different case types while you’re with us. Dive into lectures, videos of patient treatment, and hands-on exercises that provide you with the knowledge and confidence to return home and implement occlusal treatments in your practice the next week.
Core 5: Diagnosis & Airway
Core 5 is an online course that provides you with the procedural knowledge to do contemporary restorative procedures at the highest level. Find a clear understanding of the four options of treatment: Reshaping, Repositioning, Restoring and Surgical alternatives. Provisional restorations, bite registration techniques, laboratory communication and cementation/adhesive options will be a cornerstone of Core 5.
Core 6: Predictable Esthetics
Core 6 is a hands-on program will assist the cosmetic dentist in taking those critical steps in accomplishing anterior restorative procedures at their highest level. Restoring anterior teeth and managing dental esthetics with predictability, truly represents the culmination of our understanding of how this intricate system is designed as we attempt to emulate what nature has originally created.
Core 7: Advanced Problem Solving
Core 7 is the final course of our Core Curriculum and provides you with the necessary information to solve the most complex dental problems such as extreme occlusal wear, anterior open bites, deep overbites, extreme overjet and Class III malocclusions. Neutral zone and vertical dimension will be covered in detail as it pertains to the treatment of the above problems.
How long does it take?
Dawson Mini-Residency enrollees are typically through the Core Curriculum within 13 months, some may even be able to advance before this timeframe by taking Core 1: Occlusion & Smile Design online. (ask a course advisor about that here!)
Can I take these courses at different locations?
Yes! You may take any of the Core Curriculum courses in a location that’s convenient for you. Don’t be afraid to ask a Course Advisor to customize your schedule to your needs and desired locations.
What’s the difference between the Core Curriculum & the Mini-Residency?
There is none! The Mini-Residency is simply all of our Core Curriculum courses bundled and expedited to help you reach your goals at an even faster rate.
